flood tipsWith over 20 years of taking the initial call from customers who have walked into their homes or businesses to find a flooded basement or standing water in another area, we understand completely the panic and fear this type of event brings on. The first step when finding a disaster in your home is to call All Dry Water Damage Experts immediately, so we can get on the road to come help you. We will gather necessary information about your loss, will answer any questions you may have, and will send a crew of technicians on their way to your property to get your house back to normal as soon as possible.

Customers like to know things they should be doing to help before our technicians arrive. Here are some suggested do’s and don’ts:

DO:

Shut off the water source, if possible.

Go to the highest level of your home (i.e., roof, top floor, attic, etc.) if water in your home is rising and you can’t get out.

Move household items out of damaged areas or cover them up with plastic

Mop or wet vac as much water as possible.

Open windows to encourage faster drying.

If weather is hot, turn on fans or air conditioner.

Open cabinets and drawers in affected rooms to speed up drying process.

Turn electricity off, unless it requires you to be in a wet area to do so.

Take photographs of the interior and exterior of your home and document the damages for insurance claim purposes.

Bring all clothes and bedding outside to dry, if possible. Any fabric contaminated with sewage should be thrown out

Call your insurance company to begin filing a claim.

Don’t:

DON’T use a household vacuum to try to remove water

DON’T use appliances when standing on wet carpets or floors.

DON’T turn on a ceiling fixture if the ceiling is wet.

DON’T enter or remain in your house if you smell gas.

DON’T turn on HVAC systems to help with air circulation unless you are confident no mold or bacteria is inside the duct system.
